Your new roleAs our new bTechnical Director - Critical Systemsb, you will play a pivotal role in leading and developing Ramboll's electrical design capability across the bIndustrial, Healthcare, Government, Marine, and infrastructure sectorsb.
You will provide specialist expertise in bHigh Voltage (HV) systems up to 33 kVb, bLow Voltage (LV)b networks, and bcritical power systemsb including bUPS and standby generationb. You will also guide clients in improving bresilience, redundancy, and reliabilityb, while supporting the bdecarbonisation and electrificationb of private networks.
Your work will cover the full lifecycle of private power distribution systems, from concept and feasibility studies through detailed design, commissioning, and operational optimisation.
Key areas of focus will include:
- Design and specification of bHV substationsb up to 33 kV, including bswitchgear selection, transformer sizing, protection coordination, and earthing system designb.
- Production and review of bsingle-line diagrams (SLDs)b and bnetwork protection studiesb, ensuring compliance with bENA, IEC, and BS standardsb.
- Technical leadership for bresilient electrical systemsb, incorporating bredundancy topologies (N+1, 2N)b and mitigation of bsingle points of failureb.
- Guidance on bprivate HV network connectionsb to Distribution Network Operators (DNOs including bG99/G100 complianceb, bload flow analysisb, and bfault level managementb.
- Supporting clients in bfuture-proofing their electrical infrastructureb for blog-carbon technologiesb such as battery storage, renewable integration, and electric vehicle charging.
- Leading bt technical assurance and governanceb to maintain the highest standards of quality across all electrical deliverablesb.
- Act as the bUK electrical subject matter expertb for all Critical Systems projects up to 33 kV.
- Lead concept, feasibility, and detailed designs for bHV and LV power distribution systemsb in mission-critical and industrial environments.
- Develop and review bequipment specificationsb, bprotection philosophiesb, and bearthing and bonding designsb.
- Undertake and review bnetwork modelling and analysisb, including:
- bProtection coordination studiesb
- bShort-circuit and fault level calculationsb
- bLoad flow and power quality studiesb
- bArc flash hazard analysisb and mitigation strategies
- Use and oversee studies using bETAP, Trimble, or equivalent bpower system analysis softwareb.
- Provide btechnical due diligence and assuranceb on electrical infrastructure projects.
- Support benergy resilience and decarbonisation planningb, integrating renewables and backup systems within client estates.
- Collaborate with other Ramboll disciplines to deliver bintegrated, sustainable, and technically robustb solutions.
You will join a skilled, multi-disciplinary technical team working alongside project managers and engineers across multiple offices and regions. You'll be the bgo-to authority on HV systems and resilient electrical designb, supporting colleagues in delivering technically excellent and sustainable outcomes for clients.

Qualifications and skills that will set you up for success- Degree in bElectrical Engineeringb or a related discipline, withbexperienceb in bHV and LV design.
- Proven experience in bprivate HV networks up to 33 kVb, including substation design, switchgear specification, and protection coordination.
- bChartered Engineer (CEng) status, ideally with the bIETb.
- bProficiency in bpower system analysis softwareb such as bETAP, Trimble or equivalentb.
- bDemonstrated capability in bprotection studies, fault analysis, load flow, and arc flash assessmentsb.
- Strong understanding of brobject resilience and redundancy architectures (N+1, 2Nb).
- bExperience with bDNO interfacesb, bG99 complianceb, and relevant bENA standardsb.
- bKnowledge of blog-carbon and energy transition technologiesb, including battery energy storage systems (BESS and renewable integrationb.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate technical detail into clear commercial and operational outcomes.
