MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
House Parents are at the heart of our boarding community, combining warmth, flexibility, and initiative to foster a nurturing and inspiring environment. They are mentors, role models, and leaders who ensure students feel secure and supported while embracing opportunities for personal growth.
This dynamic role requires a proactive and positive approach, as House Parents lead by example-whether through participating in activities, encouraging students to discover their passions, or helping manage day-to-day operations of the boarding house. By setting the standard in enthusiasm and resilience, House Parents inspire students to thrive in all aspects of their lives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Pastoral Care: Act "in loco parentis" to ensure students' emotional, social, and physical well-being. Collaborate with the Counselling team and Health Centre to address individual needs .Staying over night in the boarding House when on duty is an expectation.
- Academic Tracking: Monitor students' academic progress, providing guidance and support to help them achieve their goals. Liaise with teachers to address concerns and celebrate achievements .
- Community Leadership: Encourage teamwork, respect, and responsibility among boarders, instilling core values and promoting a positive house culture .
- Activity Involvement: Actively engage in student activities to lead by example, inspiring students to pursue their interests and develop a balanced, passionate approach to life .
- Operational Support: Oversee daily logistics such as dining supervision, weekend activities, and occasional transportation, including driving students when required .
- Communication: Maintain regular and open communication with parents, providing updates on their child's well-being, academic progress, and personal development .
- Crisis Management: Respond to maintenance issues, medical emergencies, or missing students using established protocols .
- Administrative Duties: Maintain accurate records and ensure all administrative tasks are handled efficiently for the smooth running of the House .
- Role Modeling: Exhibit empathy, patience, and cultural sensitivity to help students from diverse backgrounds integrate and thrive .
SKILLS AND COMPETENCES:
- Previous experience working with children or young people.
- A proactive and positive mindset, demonstrating resilience and adaptability in a dynamic environment.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage administrative tasks and maintain accurate records.
