The Governors of Gladstone Primary School are seeking to appoint a HLTA (Cover Supervisor) - Level 7 to join our dedicated, skilled team and contribute fully to the life of our happy school.
The main purpose of this role is to lead planned learning with individuals, groups, or classes of pupils in the absence of a Teaching Assistant or Teacher. The post holder will be line managed and deployed by SLT. They will have supervisory responsibilities for individual and groups of children and work at H.L.T.A. standards. Additionally, they will manage, organise, and prepare resources for planned learning.
'The post holder may be required to guide & assist lower grade staff during cover duties, including support staff, apprentices, or work experience students.'
The candidate must hold at least an NVQ Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) or higher, with extensive experience teaching across the 3-11 years age range or externally assessed HLTA status.
Key Duties / Responsibilities- Prepare lessons for individuals, groups, and whole classes.
- Participate in planning and evaluating learning activities, providing feedback on pupil progress and behaviour.
- Assess pupils' development, progress, and attainment during planned sessions.
- Implement planned activities/teaching interventions as directed by SLT/SENCo, adjusting based on pupils' responses.
- Report on pupils' development, progress, and attainment to the responsible teacher.
- Follow, review, and implement IEPs for children with SEN.
- Maintain up-to-date individual work folders and records, including SEN and intervention folders.
- Provide classroom cover during teacher absence and timetabled PPA/ECT cover weekly.
- Share information about pupils with staff, parents, carers, and external agencies as appropriate.
- Establish positive relationships with children, parents, and carers.
- Contribute to assessments using standardised tools.
- Support the creation of a safe, clean, and inspiring learning environment, including display work.
- Provide immediate verbal and written feedback to children.
- Adhere to the school's marking and feedback policies, maintaining high standards of presentation.
- Manage reviews and timelines for IEPs in collaboration with teachers and SENCo.
- Support other staff members in the classroom.
- Support the use of IT across curriculum areas.
- Assist in delivering interventions such as Switch On, Catch Up, Nurture under the SENCo's guidance.
- Supervise pupils during educational visits and out-of-school activities, including appointments like CAMHs or Speech and Language.
- Prepare and clear classroom materials, ensuring readiness for sessions.
- Assist with behaviour management and supervisory duties, following school policies.
- Attend relevant training and staff meetings.
- Participate in school events and support the yard duty rota.
- Adhere to all academy and trust policies.
- Hold Level 1 Safeguarding qualification.
- Maintain confidentiality per GDPR and school policies.
- Support school leadership in promoting a positive ethos and school improvement.
- Foster behaviours aligned with the school's values.
- Undertake any other duties necessary for the effective running of the school.
- Attend to any additional reasonable duties as required by the Headteacher.
