Highly Specialist Pharmacist - Cardiothoracic TransplantThe closing date is 10 November 2025
An exciting opportunity for a Highly Specialist Directorate Lead Pharmacist to join the team at the Wythenshawe site of Manchester Foundation Trust. During this 2 year fixed term role you will be responsible for developing a high quality, patient focused clinical pharmacy service to the Cardiothoracic transplant out patient department. You will contribute to the medicine's optimisation and medicines governance agenda across the MFT wide Cardiac division, and support the Cardiothoracic in patient ward when necessary.
The transplant service offers heart and lung transplant operations to patients from the whole of the North West of England and beyond. We have a specialist heart and lung transplant ward, as well as a dedicated out patient service overseeing all of our transplant patients and providing on going specialist medications via our out patient pharmacy. MFT is one of only two centres in the UK to provide heart and lung surgery, transplant, and specialised respiratory ECMO (extra corporeal membrane oxygenation) under one roof.
This is an excellent post for a pharmacist who is looking to become fully immersed in a specialist clinical MDT and wants to make a difference to patient care. You will develop your leadership and management skills and demonstrate your ability to innovate and implement change. We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and motivated clinical pharmacist with experience of cardiothoracic transplant patients.
Main duties of the jobTo deliver a high quality patient focused clinical pharmacy service to Cardiothoracic transplant patients and to establish effective relationships with clinical staff and other stakeholders delivering care to our service users.
To promote the responsible, safe, clinically effective and cost effective use of medicines within the division.
To support education and development of medical, nursing and pharmacy staff in your role as Highly Specialist Pharmacist for Cardiothoracic transplant.
You will develop your leadership and management skills within Pharmacy, and as a senior member of the Cardiac Services Pharmacy Team, will be expected to deputise for the Divisional Lead Pharmacist when required.
You must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work as part of a team whilst also managing your own workload. You must be able to manage and motivate others and have the ability to influence the multidisciplinary team and engage with key stakeholders.

Person Specification Qualifications- Member of the General Pharmaceutical Council
 - Vocational 4 year masters degree in pharmacy
 - 1 year pre registration training and experience
 - Post graduate diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent documented clinical experience
 - Member of Faculty/ RPS.
 - Member of National/ International Specialist Organisation.
 - Completion of the Independent Prescribing Course.
 - Completion of postgraduate qualification in relevant specialist field
 - Evidence of management training.
 
- Professional knowledge acquired through the vocational masters degree in pharmacy or equivalent.
 - Significant post qualification experience in a relevant role practicing as a pharmacist
 - Current and relevant clinical knowledge in area of speciality
 - Demonstrable excellent team working.
 - Demonstrable commitment to CPD.
 - Demonstrable experience in training of specialist pharmacists and other healthcare professionals
