Job Description

Required for September 2026 HIGHER LEVEL TEACHING ASSISTANT (Speech, Language Communication) GRADE 9 Pt 18

  • Pt 23: FTE 35 hours per week, term time only plus 5 days. The Derby High School in Bury, Greater Manchester, is seeking to appoint a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (Speech, Language and Communication). We are looking for someone with relevant qualifications, skills and experience who has a passion and commitment to improving the Speech, Language and Communication outcomes of students.

This is an exciting new role and, working under the direction of the Assistant Headteacher SEND, the post-holder will have the opportunity to make a significant difference to the success of students at The Derby High School.

Responsibilities
  • Support students with speech, language and communication related barriers under the direction of the Assistant Headteacher SEND.
  • Plan and deliver small group interventions for students.
  • Collaborate with parents and carers to provide guidance on speech, language and communication strategies.
  • Work independently and take initiative in developing and implementing support plans.
  • Build strong relationships with students, staff and external stakeholders.
Qualifications
  • Experience of working with students who have speech, language and communication related barriers.
  • Experience in a school environment (ideally Primary or Secondary sectors).
  • Experience of running interventions for Speech, Language and Communication.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with initiative.
  • Strong relationship building skills.
  • Flexibility and adaptability.
