Job Description
Overview

Courtlands Independent Special School is seeking a committed and dynamic HLTA to take a lead role in supporting pupil transitions and engagement, particularly for pupils experiencing anxiety and emotionally based school avoidance (EBSA).

This is a key role within the school, working closely with pupils, families and the wider team to ensure successful transitions into and within Courtlands, and to support pupils who may find attending school challenging.

Role Overview

The successful candidate will take responsibility for overseeing the transition of new pupils into the school, as well as supporting existing pupils whose attendance and engagement may be impacted by anxiety. The role will involve working directly with pupils both in school and, where appropriate, supporting engagement from home.

You will play a vital role in bridging the gap between home and school, building strong relationships with families and ensuring a consistent, supportive approach to re-engaging pupils in education.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate transition programmes for new pupils
  • Support pupils with EBSA and anxiety to increase attendance and engagement
  • Develop and implement individualised transition and attendance plans
  • Work closely with the therapy team to support pupils' emotional wellbeing
  • Act as a key link between home and school, maintaining regular communication with families
  • Monitor and track pupil engagement and progress
  • Support staff in implementing strategies to reduce anxiety and support access to learning
Person Specification

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working with children and young people with additional needs
  • Has a strong understanding of anxiety and EBSA
  • Is proactive, self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Can build strong, trusting relationships with pupils and families
  • Is calm, consistent and solution-focused
  • Works well as part of a team and alongside external professionals
  • Holds a clean driving licence and is willing to travel as part of the role
What We Offer
  • A supportive and forward-thinking school environment
  • The opportunity to make a real difference to pupils' lives
  • A strong, relational approach to working with young people
  • Ongoing professional development and training

This is an exciting opportunity to take on a meaningful role within a growing specialist school, supporting some of the most vulnerable pupils to successfully re-engage with education.
