Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated HGV (Heavy Goods Vehicle) Mechanic to join our dynamic maintenance team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a fleet of heavy-duty trucks (Volvo, Scania, MAN) to ensure optimal performance, safety, and compliance. Your expertise will keep our operations running smoothly and efficiently, supporting our commitment to reliable transportation services. Responsibilities
Conduct thorough inspections of HGVs and commercial vehicles to identify mechanical, electrical, and structural issues.
Perform repairs and maintenance on engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension systems, and other critical components using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and fabrication techniques.
Interpret schematics, technical manuals, and electrical diagrams to troubleshoot complex systems effectively.
Carry out welding and soldering tasks to repair or modify vehicle parts as needed.
Assemble new vehicle components or modify existing parts to meet operational specifications.
Repair and maintain auxiliary equipment such as excavators, forklifts, and other heavy machinery used in operations.
Ensure all work complies with safety standards and industry regulations while maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
Provide exceptional customer service by communicating clearly with team members and clients regarding repair status and recommendations.
Assist with heavy lifting tasks safely using appropriate equipment to handle large or awkward components.
Requirements
Proven experience working as an HGV mechanic or in a similar heavy vehicle maintenance role.
Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose issues accurately and efficiently.
Good communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members and provide quality customer service.
Relevant certifications in vehicle repair or electrical systems are advantageous but not mandatory (Mechanical BTEC, City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3)
This role would also be suited to a qualified car mechanic who is looking to progress in their career. Full training and support will be provided.
