Job Description
Hepatology Advanced Nurse Practitioner

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Hepatology team at C&V UHB as a Hepatology Advanced Nurse Practitioner. The post holder will have a high clinical profile providing the highest standard of evidence-based care for patients with liver disease including advanced clinical practice, clinical audit, education and research.

The post holder will demonstrate advanced practical and theoretical knowledge of liver disease, acting as an autonomous clinical practitioner, prescribing, ordering investigations and developing pathways of care for patients with liver disease including referrals to other specialities and discharge plan according to C&V UHB policy. Working as an autonomous practitioner, the post holder will provide both an in/out and day case patient service including paracentesis.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for the management of the Hepatology/BBV/HCC CNS's.

Main duties of the job
  • Management responsibility for the team of Hepatology/BBV/HCC Clinical Nurse Specialists.
  • Responsible for creating a range of systems and processes required to operationally manage the Hepatology nursing team and its outreach provision and ensure mechanisms are in place to continuously monitor effectiveness.
  • Demonstrate advanced practical and theoretical knowledge of liver disease, acting as an autonomous clinical practitioner, prescribing, ordering investigations and developing pathways of care for patients with liver disease on an inpatient, outpatient and day case basis.
  • Be responsible for educational training for paracentesis in C&V UHB Hepatology department.
  • To facilitate the highest standard of evidence-based care for patients with liver disease including advanced clinical practice, clinical audit, education and research.
  • Work across professional boundaries to influence clinical practice within the local, regional and national agenda.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • MSc in Advanced practice/Nurse Practitioner
  • Non-medical prescriber
  • ENB 998 / PGCE
  • Clinical/Patient Assessment course
Experience
  • Appropriate and substantial experience in Advanced Practice and/or Hepatology practice
  • Proven experience of working as an independent practitioner
  • In-depth knowledge of NHS policy & legislation, relevant to Hepatology
  • Involvement with research and audit.
Skills
  • Critical decision making and critical thinking skills.
  • Able to work autonomously.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Ability to lead and motivate others
Special Knowledge
  • In depth knowledge of Advanced practice
