Swindon Borough Council are on an exciting journey to transform service delivery. We want our town to be the best it can be. Our ambitious vision in the new Swindon Plan is supported by realistic transformation programmes, with the people of Swindon at their heart. Because that's who we're doing it for - the communities and businesses that make our town great. As part of the Council, you'll support a friendly local authority making decisions with real impact. It's all for better public services. Better processes. And a better quality of life, for everyone. Join us, and Swindon will be better with you.

Your next role

We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Specialist Stop Smoking Advisor to join our Specialist Stop Smoking team in Swindon. This role focuses on supporting people who smoke to successfully quit through the delivery of evidence based, person centred stop smoking interventions. You will provide behavioural support alongside advice on stop smoking medications and nicotine replacement therapies, helping individuals develop the confidence, motivation and skills needed to achieve a smoke free life. Working with referrals from primary care, community pharmacies, hospitals, maternity services and community partners, you will deliver support in a range of community settings, meeting clients in locations that are convenient and accessible to them, including community venues, GP practices and other local hubs. You will play a key role in reducing smoking prevalence, tackling health inequalities and improving health outcomes across the borough.

The ideal candidate will have experience supporting behaviour change in a health, public health or community setting, with a strong understanding of motivational interviewing and person centred approaches. You will be confident working independently within the community, engaging with individuals from diverse and underserved communities, including those with complex needs, and building trusting relationships that encourage sustained behaviour change. Excellent communication, organisational and record keeping skills are essential, along with the ability to manage a varied caseload. A relevant qualification or training in smoking cessation, health coaching, public health or a related field is desirable, together with experience delivering smoking cessation interventions and supporting people to quit smoking using behavioural support and evidence based treatments.

You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act "for the effective performance of a customer facing role").

You will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check.

As an employee, you will receive a diverse and exciting environment in which to work, encouraging creativity and innovation whilst recognising the need to support ongoing personal development and a flexible work life balance.
