DescriptionPriory Hospital Cardiff is looking to recruit a Healthcare Assistant to join the team. This is a full time role of 37.5 hours a week. The shifts are 12 hours on a rota basis to include nights, weekends and bank holidays. Shift times would be: Day Shift 07:30 - 19:45; Night Shift 19:30 - 07:45. Staff will work a set shift pattern, such as: Week 1 = Monday, Tuesday, Saturday & Sunday; Week 2 = Wednesday, Thursday & Friday.
Located just a few miles outside Cardiff, South Wales, Priory Hospital Cardiff supports the NHS by offering low secure services for males and females with a personality disorder, a learning disability or a mental health diagnosis. Care is provided across three bespoke therapeutic placements (BTPs), each offering specialist, tailored treatment in the least restrictive environment possible.
What you'll be doingYou will be part of a compassionate team who are committed to our patients' wellbeing. We take a personalised approach, using proven therapies to help people move forward with confidence and build a healthier, more fulfilling future. You will play a key part in their recovery, assisting qualified staff with the assessment and implementation of individual patient care plans, undertaking routine tasks and activities as directed or delegated to facilitate wellbeing, dignity and treatment of patients.

- Provides practical support and responsive care to patients who require assistance with intimate personal needs such as dressing, bathing and toileting activities ensuring that such activities comply with procedures and the relevant healthcare legislation.
- Observes and monitors the wellbeing of patients ensuring that any unusual physical, mental or emotional occurrences are promptly referred to senior staff/the primary nurse and documented as appropriate.

The candidate is educated to a minimum of NVQ Level 1 or GCSEs in Mathematics and English and demonstrates an understanding of the need for strict confidentiality, alongside basic IT literacy skills. No specific prior experience is required for this role. The position involves frequent interaction with staff, patients, and visitors on the ward, requiring the regular exchange of routine information both in person and over the telephone. Strong communication is essential, with well developed observational and listening skills needed to effectively monitor the mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing of patients.
