Job Description

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant to join the team at HMP Preston, a Category B male prison in Preston city centre with a capacity of around 750. The role offers a varied environment across primary care, emergency response, clinics, health promotion and more.

Job summary
  • Hours: Full time, 37.5 hours per week, shifts Monday Sunday 07 30, including every other weekend and occasional nights. 2 week rota with 3 long shifts per week.
  • Salary: £25,557 - £29,723 per annum, depending on experience.
  • Legal right to work in the UK is required; offers are subject to additional vetting and security checks.

Main duties of the job
  • Work across primary care and substance misuse (clinics, health promotion, bloods, wound care, etc.)
  • Carry out reception duties - reviewing new patients, assessing observations, collecting urine samples, etc.
  • Assist with the release and transfer of patients.
  • Conduct bloods and vaccination clinics.
  • Respond to emergency situations.
  • Provide physical and end of life care as required.
  • Ensure continuity of care for all patients and deliver outstanding care at all times.
  • Contribute to and implement care packages, supporting wellbeing and clinic activities.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care (preferred).
  • Clinical skills: venepuncture, ECG, observations, etc.
  • Experience in a care setting - ideally hospital or prison; experience in A&E beneficial.
  • Non judgemental and compassionate approach.
