Job Description
Health & Safety Manager - Tate & Lyle Sugars

Location: Tate & Lyle Sugars, Factory Rd, London E16 2EW

ATRE & LYLE SUGARS is a leading global supplier of sweetener solutions, operating major sugar refineries across North America and Europe.

This role involves inspiring, influencing, and elevating safety performance across our flagship Thames Refinery. You will drive continuous improvement, shape a culture of safety and lead key initiatives that impact all levels of the organisation.

Why this role matters

As operations expand and systems evolve, we need someone who can bring clarity, structure, and energy, influencing at every level and building strong relationships across the organisation.

What you'll lead
  • A site wide safety vision aligned with global ambitions.
  • A robust auditing system to ensure risks are controlled and improvement areas identified.
  • Behavioural safety programmes that genuinely shift mindsets.
  • High quality investigations, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Fire protection, contractor management, and compliance across a complex industrial and port based environment.
  • Engagement across departments, functions, and global EHS networks.
Cross Functional Leadership
  • Support Plaistow site during absences or incidents.
  • Build strong partnerships across operations, commercial teams, and global EHS networks.
  • Provide regular safety performance reports to regional and corporate EHS leaders.
  • Ensure group standards are embedded locally.
  • Collaborate with the Environment Manager-covering each other when needed.
What makes you a great fit
  • You're experienced in heavy industry or manufacturing and understand high risk environments.
  • You influence without forcing: people follow you because you connect, not because you command.
  • You communicate clearly, confidently, and with emotional intelligence.
  • You're resilient, proactive, and thrive in environments where no two days look the same.
  • You're ready to help build stronger systems, better processes, and a more data driven approach to safety.
What you'll experience
  • A role with visibility, influence, and genuine purpose.
  • A collaborative partnership with our Environment Manager and wider teams.
  • A chance to shape the next chapter of safety at a site with deep heritage and big ambitions.
  • If you want a role where your leadership truly matters, this is it.
