Job Description

O'Neill & Brennan are currently recruiting on behalf of a Tier 1 Main Contractor who have over 50 years experience delivering high quality, sustainable construction projects across the UK. Their portfolio includeslandmark developments in the commercial, residential, education, and healthcare sectors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Guide and support project teams in fulfilling their health and safety responsibilities effectively.

  • Ensure full compliance with relevant UK health and safety legislation, including the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, CDM Regulations 2015, and RIDDOR 2013.

  • Develop and maintain health and safety procedures in line with CDM 2015 and HSE best practices.

  • Oversee on-site activities to verify adherence to safety protocols and control measures by staff and subcontractors.

  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections, ensuring timely resolution of any issues identified.

  • Contribute to the creation and review of essential health and safety documents, including RAMS, Construction Phase Plans, and Lift Plans, including those from subcontractors.

  • Accurately maintain safety records and data using health and safety management software to support compliance and audit readiness.

  • Coordinate third-party health and safety training and deliver in-house toolbox talks and briefings to promote a strong safety culture.

  • Lead and assist in the investigation of incidents and accidents, providing actionable recommendations to prevent recurrence.

  • Play a key role in evaluating the health and safety performance of subcontractors and suppliers.

  • Collect, analyse, and report health and safety data-including near misses and RIDDOR incidents-to inform improvements and support management decisions.

  • Support the preparation of health and safety content for pre-qualification questionnaires and tender documents.

  • Perform all duties in alignment with internal health and safety procedures as outlined by the Health & Safety Director.

Requirements:

  • Solid experience in a Health & Safety role within the UK construction sector.

  • In-depth understanding of UK Health & Safety legislation-particularly CDM 2015-and how it applies on active construction sites.

  • Practical experience conducting site inspections, compliance checks, and risk assessments.

  • Comfortable delivering toolbox talks and promoting a positive safety culture through internal briefings and behavioural safety programs.

  • Proficient in using digital health and safety platforms for reporting, tracking compliance, and managing safety data.

  • Strong investigative skills, with the ability to identify root causes and deliver actionable, data-driven safety recommendations.

  • Proven ability to assess health and safety standards across subcontractors and supply chain partners.

  • Excellent communication skills-both written and verbal-with the ability to analyse and present health and safety performance data effectively.

  • Relevant professional qualifications in occupational health and safety (e.g., NEBOSH, NVQ, or degree-level certification), along with a minimum of 3 years' experience working with a principal contractor of similar scale.
