Job Description

Vickerstock are working in partnership with an established construction contractor on the appointment of a Health & Safety Advisor.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced construction H&S professional to join a well-established business delivering a range of construction projects.

Working closely with project teams and operational management, you will provide practical Health & Safety guidance, monitor compliance and support the continued development of a positive safety culture across live construction sites.

In your new role:
  • Provide Health & Safety advice and support to project managers, site teams and subcontractors
  • Support the implementation and continual improvement of H&S policies, procedures and management systems
  • Oversee the development, review and implementation of risk assessments and safe systems of work
  • Monitor compliance across construction activities, including lifting operations, temporary works and permit-to-work arrangements
  • Support contractor compliance, site inductions, emergency procedures and fire safety arrangements
  • Work with management to identify training needs and ensure appropriate competency standards are maintained
  • Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions
  • Support site safety meetings and employee engagement initiatives
  • Monitor H&S performance, providing reports and recommendations to management
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and promote continuous improvement across project operations
What you'll need to succeed:
  • Degree, Diploma or relevant qualification in Occupational Health & Safety or a related discipline
  • Minimum 3 years' Health & Safety experience within construction
  • Strong working knowledge of construction H&S legislation and best practice
  • Experience developing and reviewing risk assessments and safe systems of work
  • Practical understanding of high-risk construction activities and contractor management
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to engage site teams and senior management
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Proactive, hands-on approach to Health & Safety
Desirable (it would be great if you have this, but don't worry if you don't):
  • Experience supporting H&S across multiple construction projects
  • Knowledge of lifting operations, temporary works and permit-to-work systems
  • Experience conducting incident investigations and managing corrective actions
  • Experience supporting H&S training and workforce engagement
