The RoleA Health & Safety Advisor in a switchgear manufacturing company supports the implementation and maintenance of health and safety systems to ensure compliance with legal requirements and company standards. The role is particularly important because switchgear manufacturing involves electrical equipment assembly, metal fabrication, lifting operations and machinery use.
Key Responsibilities- Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation and industry best practices.
- Promote environmental sustainability initiatives and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
- Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining Health & Safety policies, procedures, and SOPs across all manufacturing sites.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and site inspections to identify hazards, assess risks, and implement necessary controls.
- Assist with incident investigations, analyse root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Support administration in the Health & Safety Department.
- Assist with Health & Safety training and awareness programs to employees and management to ensure compliance with policies and promote a strong safety culture.
- Monitor and report on Health & Safety performance, trends, and compliance metrics to management.
- Support the development and execution of emergency response plans and drills.
- Ensure adherence to the company's Safety Statement and Safety Policy across all sites.
- Collaborate with production managers and supervisors to ensure safety practices are embedded in daily operations.
- Remain updated on changes in Health & Safety regulations and implement necessary updates to policies and procedures.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies and external auditors during inspections and audits.
- Conduct regular Toolbox Talks on Health & Safety matters and on topics of the day.
- A strong knowledge of Health & Safety
- Proficient in IT; Microsoft 365, Excel, Power Point, HS Management Systems.
- A Qualification in Health & Safety or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience within a manufacturing or similar environment.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Effective communication and people skills to engage employees at all levels.
- Preferable - CSP, NEBOSH, IOSH.
