Job Description
Title: Health and Safety Advisor - Newcastle
Purpose of RoleTo provide support to the Director of Health and Safety in the delivery of Health and Safety Management Systems and processes across the group to help ensure a culture of best practice health and safety across the business and property portfolio, ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory regime.
Main Activities- Contribute to the delivery of safety and health management and safety culture.
- Provide health and safety advice and guidance to colleagues and contribute to problem solving.
- Undertake health and safety inspections and audits of Grainger's sites.
- Coordinate health and safety internal audit and risk management processes.
- Provide face to face DSE assessments and follow up actions.
- Creating Risk and Control Matrices (RACMs) and process maps where required.
- Manage the day to day administration of the health and safety management systems, inbox, leading on improvement projects for systems and processes.
- Manage the collection of health and safety information from internal and external stakeholders, auditing Grainger's health and safety compliance data quality.
- Produce key health and safety information for the business including assisting in the preparation of reports for the Board, Executive Team, Health and Safety Committee and Departments.
- Monitor internal and external health and safety audit schedules.
- Produce audit reports, communicate the findings and monitor action plans.
- Assist with the review of the health and safety policy and procedures.
- Collate, monitor and follow up on accidents/incidents and collating RIDDOR information where required.
- Coordinate health and safety training, including identifying training needs, and where needed, create and deliver training to colleagues. Liaise with Grainger's Learning & Development team as and when required.
- Participate in and facilitate health and safety meetings from time to time.
- Communicate with colleagues on the management of health and safety.
- Driving forwards improvements in Grainger's health and safety culture.
- Previous experience in a similar role.
- Demonstrable knowledge, understanding and experience of using health, safety management systems.
- Excellent knowledge of managing spreadsheets, databases and managing data and producing reports.
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills for internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
- Ability to handle sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- A proven team player who is self motivated, uses own initiative, works well under pressure and has previous experience of working independently.
- Excellent organisational (methodological and systematic) and time management skills.
- An interest in Health and Safety Management.
- Comply and uphold Grainger's policies and procedures, in relation to, but not limited to, confidentiality, health and safety, GDPR, IT, security, equality, diversity and fair treatment.
- NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or similar highly desirable.
- Property experience.
