Job Description
Qualifications 
- Valid WV teaching certification or WVDE teaching permit or substitute permit
- High school diploma or GED
- WVSSAC certification
- Cooperates with building principal
- Cooperates with athletic director
- Develops rapport with coaching staff, participants, student body, faculty, parents, community, officials, news media, and opponents
- Organizes coaching staff
- Employs appropriate conduct during practices and games
- Attends league, conference, and WVSSAC meetings
- Participates in activities that foster growth and development
- Motivates staff and players toward desired goals
- Commands respect by example in appearance, manners, behavior, and language
- Develop high caliber and quality instruction
- Teach fundamental skills
- Handle athletic injuries
- Cares for equipment
- Supervise participants and discipline team appropriately
- Design quality organization of practice sessions
- Design pre-season planning
- Supervise managers and other support personnel
- Manage budget
- Follow purchasing procedures
- Initiate game organizational skills
- Follow league, conference, and WVSSAC policies
- Devote time and energy to coaching duties
- Follow end-of-season proceduresComplete WVSSAC Training & Certification Program and take KCS Staff Development Training on Concussions
- Non-Teaching Applicants must complete WVSSAC Training and Certification Program (Estimated Cost: $250)
- Apply for position(s) annually
- Submit initial assignment documents (Criminal Background Check, Substance Screening Test)
- Be eligible and apply for certification as Coach through the WV Department of Education (Estimated Cost: $35)
- Keep certification valid and current (Estimated Annual Cost: $35)
- Attend Kanawha County Schools' Orientation
- New teachers hired after July 1, 2012 who apply to coach on the secondary level (grades 6-12) must complete the three hour training session provided by Kanawha County Schools and complete the online Concussion Awareness Course through the KCS Staff Development Site
- Training courses will be taught throughout the year; cost of the course will be $15.00
