Overview

The Royal Shakespeare Company is looking to appoint a Head of Wardrobe for the RSC and Neal Street Production's upcoming USA Tour of Hamnet.

Contract and dates

This position is offered as a fixed term contract, commencing on 02 February 2026.

Role and responsibilities

The Head of Wardrobe will lead and manage the Wardrobe Department for the RSC & Neal Street's production of Hamnet during its transfer to the USA. They will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of the original costume designs and overseeing all aspects of the department's operations throughout rehearsals, performances, and venue transitions.

Requirements / Qualifications
  • Previous experience as a Head of Wardrobe on an international tour, preferably to the United States of America.
  • Strong proven understanding of theatre departments and creative teams.
  • Extensive practical knowledge of wardrobe and costume principles, including safe working practices.
  • Skilled in wardrobe and costume techniques with excellent fabric and laundry care knowledge.
  • Adaptable and cooperative, being responsive to cast, creative and venue needs.
  • Effective communicator with colleagues, touring and local staff.
  • Strong organisational and management skills.
  • Friendly, approachable, and a proactive team player.
  • Basic IT proficiency (Microsoft Office).
Tour and venues

Co-produced with Neal Street Productions, Hamnet will tour to the following US venues: The Yard, Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Chicago, Illinois; Shakespeare Theatre Company, Washington, DC; and Toni Rembe Theatre, American Conservatory Theatre, San Francisco.
