Imperium Commodity Search is confidentially and exclusively retained by a global bulk coal and metals trading house, launching a new desk in London in the scrap steel/ferrous scrap sector. This is a new project for a global trading business with excellent financing and operational support already established globally. As a platform for an experienced trader to grow a business, they don't come much better.
To launch this new steel scrap trading unit, our client is seeking a driven and commercially orientated steel trader/trading manager with a strong exposure to the scrap markets and the ability/desire to build a flourishing scrap steel trading business with a well financed multinational. Operating in numerous Asian and European regions, our client has a well established network of contacts across the coal and metals space to leverage on.
What you'll be doing:- Spearhead the launch and growth of the firm's scrap steel trading unit, headquartered in London
- Drive a profitable steel scrap trading desk by aggressively pursuing margins on the trading desk and growing the team size in both PnL and headcount
- Travel to meet with suppliers and customers/end users for the purchase of, and sale of, steel and ferrous scrap
- Work closely with finance and operations team on structuring physical scrap steel trades, ensuring timely and effective logistics of trades
- Keep up to date on market trends, data and insight across the ferrous space to capitalise on opportunity in scrap trading
- Attend industry events and conferences to further build network in the steel scrap space
- Begin to grow and manage a team to establish a well-rounded, international scrap steel trading business
- Lead the growth of the business across the UK and European/Middle Eastern steel and ferrous scrap metal markets
- 5+ years of experience in physical steel & ferrous scrap trading
- An excellent network of scrap steel suppliers and customers/end users/steel mills
- A profitable track record in the space with a large annual quantity of product traded
- The ability to grow, manage and coach a team of scrap steel traders is preferred but not essential
- Excellent commercialism and a track record of traveling to build relationships in the space both with suppliers/customers and at industry events
- Fluency in English (additional languages are a benefit but not required)
- The ability to work in London, UK
