Job Description

Barclays Payments is hiring a new Director, Head of Security (CISO).

The role holder will:

  • Set up and manage the CISO division within Barclaycard Payment Service to ensure adherence to all regulations and industry controls, with a focus on future-proofing for scalability and continuous enhancement.

  • Scope, design, and deliver Cyber Operations Solutions to ensure visibility and management of all environments.

  • Collaborate with engineering and architecture teams to align security strategies with product development and compliance needs.

  • Define and maintain reusable security standards and controls to support consistent deployments and regulatory reporting.

  • Manage vendor and tooling security strategies, ensuring scalability, interoperability, and value for money.

Purpose of the role

To oversee the people, processes, and technologies within the IT function to deliver outcomes aligned with business goals.

Accountabilities

  • Develop and implement technology strategies that enable business success by improving efficiency, supporting growth, fostering innovation, and managing risks.
  • Provide strategic leadership on all technology matters, collaborating with subject matter experts across the Group Technology organization, including infrastructure, service management, and architecture.
  • Ensure alignment with global data governance frameworks to maintain data quality, security, and privacy, leveraging data analytics and AI to extract insights and inform strategies.
  • Implement technology practices that comply with security, regulatory, and policy requirements, actively managing risks.
  • Lead digital transformation projects, modernizing legacy systems and developing digital solutions to enhance customer, client, and colleague experiences.
  • Manage the technology team through hiring, training, mentoring, and resource allocation to ensure team success.
  • Oversee technology budgets, prioritizing resources, optimizing costs, and mitigating financial risks.

Director Expectations

  • Provide expert advice to senior management, influencing decisions and contributing to strategic initiatives.
  • Manage resourcing, budgeting, and policy creation for the sub-function.
  • Ensure compliance with policies and regulations, escalating breaches appropriately.
  • Monitor and influence external regulatory and industry developments.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of industry practices and external market trends.
  • Use advanced analytical skills to solve complex problems and design solutions.
  • Make significant strategic decisions within own area.
  • Negotiate and influence stakeholders internally and externally.
  • Act as principal contact for key clients and partners.
  • Represent the function and business division as a spokesperson.
