The Opportunity
As Head of Science, you will play a pivotal role in delivering a broad, ambitious and engaging curriculum that challenges all learners and promotes a culture of high achievement. Working closely with senior leaders and colleagues, you will lead curriculum development, raise standards and champion excellence across the department.
This role is ideal for an experienced teacher with a proven track record of outstanding classroom practice and the ability to motivate and develop others.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and direction for the Science department.
- Deliver high-quality teaching across KS3, KS4 and KS5.
- Monitor student progress and implement effective intervention strategies to maximise achievement.
- Lead curriculum planning, assessment and quality assurance within the department.
- Support, coach and develop colleagues to enhance teaching and learning.
- Promote high expectations for behaviour, attendance and academic success.
- Track and analyse performance data to drive continuous improvement.
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment where all students can thrive.
- Contribute to whole-school improvement initiatives and professional learning programmes.
- Work collaboratively with pastoral teams, parents and wider stakeholders to support student success.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- A good honours degree in a relevant subject.
- Strong subject knowledge and a passion for Science education.
- Experience of leading, coaching or developing colleagues.
- A track record of raising standards and improving outcomes.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organisational and leadership abilities.
- A commitment to continuous professional development.
- The ability to build effective relationships with students, staff and families.
- A genuine desire to contribute to all aspects of school life.
- A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
