This is a key leadership opportunity to take strategic responsibility for Recycling and Neighbourhood Services, delivering high-quality, sustainable, and customer-focused services that contribute to the liveability and attractiveness of the city.

About the job

As Head of Street Scene, you will lead the effective and efficient delivery of Recycling and Area-Based Neighbourhood Services, ensuring services are modern, innovative, and aligned with best practice.

The role encompasses oversight of:

  • Waste and recycling infrastructure, including household waste recycling centres and disposal;
  • Street cleansing and environmental enforcement.

You will play a key role in shaping the long-term future of services by driving innovation, leading transformation, and embedding sustainable solutions that improve environmental outcomes and community wellbeing.

Working as part of the Senior Management Team, you will contribute to corporate priorities and lead major service improvements across the Directorate.

You will have a strong track record of leading transformation and managing change within financially challenging environments, alongside experience of policy development, service planning, and performance improvement.

You will bring excellent communication, influencing, and partnership-working skills, with the credibility to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders. Experience of managing significant budgets and resources is essential, ensuring services are delivered efficiently and provide value for money.

Above all, you will be passionate about improving environmental outcomes and delivering high-quality services for communities, with the ability to lead high-performing teams and drive meaningful, lasting change.
