Shape the future of screen education at a national scale as Into Film's next Head of Impact and Research, forging powerful partnerships across education and the screen sector, and championing equitable access to creative learning for young people everywhere.

Job Description

Who we are

Into Film is the UK's leading screen education charity, dedicated to empowering children and young people through the magic of film. Working across all four nations, we help educators unlock creativity, enrich learning and open doors to future opportunities in the screen industries and beyond.

Through Into Film's three pillars of work - Screen Careers, Film For Learning and Filmmaking - we provide information, education, experience and inspiration to support young filmmakers across the UK.

We also run the famous Into Film Festival, which sees over 3,000 screenings and events take place across 580 cinemas across the UK, reaching almost 400,000 young people and their educators, and the Into Film Awards, the UK's leading showcase for young filmmaking talent.

Our vision - Film enriches the life of every child and young person.

Our mission - To inspire and support young people to learn, and to realise their creative, cultural and career aspirations, through film and the moving image.

About the role

As Head of Impact and Research, your central mission will be to launch a new wave of exciting research and evaluation designed to provide high quality insights and data. The core ambition is to demonstrate the important role that film and screen culture plays in the educational and personal development, and future career aspirations, of young people aged 5 19. This position is key to developing Into Film's thought leadership role within the broader screen sector.

You will have overall responsibility for the practical evaluation of Into Film's extensive programmes, which currently reach over 3 million young people annually and are supported by approximately £7 million in funding. The team's outputs are significant, including approximately 20 high quality evaluation and research reports each year.

Job Requirements

You will be a senior thought leader with extensive experience in research and evaluation within the education, skills, creative, or charity sectors. This strategic role supports the future direction of Into Film by delivering robust evidence and data to drive programme growth.

The role requires strong people management, excellent communication skills, and the ability to represent the organisation with senior stakeholders. You will design and deliver inclusive, high quality evaluation methodologies using qualitative and quantitative methods, working effectively with internal teams and external partners to deliver on time and on budget.

Essential requirements include in depth knowledge of the formal education sector, including the National Curriculum and assessment frameworks in England and at least one devolved nation. Experience of the screen industry, a passion for film, and the use of AI in evaluation are desirable.

Job Responsibilities
  • Lead and grow Into Film's research and evaluation function.
  • Provide thought leadership, statistical data, and expert support to senior colleagues, including the CEO, Directors, Heads of Programme, and the learning, policy, comms, and income generation teams.
  • Review, improve, and implement the organisation's evaluation framework and strategy across the entire programme, working closely with key funders and programme delivery teams.
  • Ensure high quality evaluations are undertaken effectively, developing robust, sector wide partnership research into the impact of using film in education, the benefits of filmmaking and film watching opportunities, and the impact of creative careers guidance and work experience for young people.
  • Engage with key stakeholders - convening and leading the Research and Insight Advisory Group of leading academics and working with the established Youth Advisory Council and Education Ambassadors Group.
  • Keep the wider Into Film team updated with new research.
