We are excited to announce that we are recruiting a Head of Finance Operations for QBE Capital.

About QBE Capital

Writing $3bn GWP p.a., QBE Capital is an important exposure and capital management vehicle for QBE Group. It is on an exciting journey, having recently been granted an expanded licence to enable it to underwrite third-party business, in addition to its existing role of underwriting internal reinsurance for divisions within QBE Group. It is key to the placement of the Group's external reinsurance programme and played a pivotal role in the QBE Cat Bond issue in January and the loss portfolio transfers executed by the Group in recent years.

About the Role

This is a newly created role to lead Finance Operations for QBE Capital. The role-holder will lead collaboration with Finance Operations colleagues across the Group to leverage the global operating model and spearhead improvements in the end-to-end close process, as well as lead financial operationalisation activity in support of new projects. This will be particularly important to facilitate the growth and increased use of QBE Capital including through third-party underwriting, new internal and external reinsurance arrangements and Insurance Linked Securities (ILS) structures.

The role reports into the Head of Finance Operations, Northern Hemisphere, with a dotted line to the QBE Capital CFO. The role-holder will be a member of the QBE Capital Finance Leadership Team and the Finance Operations Close Leadership Team.

Key responsibilities
  • Responsible for completeness and integrity of QBE Capital's general ledger, liaising with RI FinOps team in relation to the DCXL sub-ledger. Provide sign-off to Finance Control when general ledger is ready for onwards use
  • Drive ongoing improvements to processes, data flows and hand-offs with other divisions and the RI FinOps team.
  • Work closely with FinOps colleagues across the Group to leverage the global operating model and drive improvements in the end-to-end close process.
  • Liaise with Finance Systems and Tech teams to escalate and drive resolution of systems issues impacting QBE Capital's finance processes.
  • Responsible for governance and controls over any changes/upgrades to QBE Capital's ledgers.
  • Manage the close process (timetable, FCM schedule, daily close calls).
  • Lead financial operationalisation of new contracts and projects, which will be particularly important to facilitate the growth and increased use of QBE Capital.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement in relevant processes and ways of working, collaborating closely with colleagues across the Group to improve the efficiency and quality of finance operations activities.
  • Build close working relationships with key stakeholders in other divisions and teams across the Group, to build deep understanding of relevant business developments and drive improvements in the accuracy and quality of information and insight provided to QBE Capital.
  • Deliver presentations as required to stakeholder groups, including the QBE Capital Board Audit Committee, Finance Management Committee and QBE Capital whole-team meetings.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across QBE Capital and beyond to support development and execution of QBE Capital's strategic priorities.
Skills and experience
  • Deep understanding of general (re)insurance
  • Track record of improving financial processes.
  • Broad financial services experience with a strong understanding of insurance processes and technology in a global context.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Collaborative and highly proactive team-player.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing strong and positive relationships with senior stakeholders.
  • Significant experience of working in a senior financial role in a complex financial services organisation.
  • High integrity.
