Are you an experienced finance leader looking for a role with real impact? The West Midlands Pension Fund is seeking a highly skilled and strategic Head of Finance to lead the Fund's finance function, ensuring the delivery of high-performing, customer-focused financial services.

About the role

Reporting directly to the Director of Finance, Resources and Transformation, you will provide leadership across all aspects of finance - including financial reporting, fund and investment accounting, cashflow and treasury management, budget setting and monitoring, and oversight of pension contributions.

You will play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering the Fund's finance strategy, ensuring robust financial planning to support over 340,000 members and 800 employers, and aligning services to the Fund's wider corporate strategy. Working closely with the Senior Leadership Team, you will help ensure the Fund continues to deliver long-term value, resilience, and best practice in financial management.

What the day will look like

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead and manage the Fund's finance function, ensuring excellence across business finance, pension finance, fund accounting, and treasury.
  • Oversee the production of the annual Statement of Accounts, budgets, and financial reporting, ensuring compliance with statutory deadlines and accounting standards.
  • Drive strategic financial planning, monitoring, and resource optimisation in collaboration with senior colleagues.
  • Maintain a strong control environment, ensuring robust policies, governance, and risk management.
  • Lead, inspire, and develop a high-performing finance team with a strong customer-focused culture.
  • Act as a key liaison with auditors, advisors, and other stakeholders, representing the Fund at the highest levels.
About you

We are looking for a qualified finance professional (CCAB or equivalent) with significant experience of senior leadership in finance. You will bring:

  • A proven track record of leading finance teams and driving performance in complex, high-value environments.
  • Strong expertise in financial reporting, budgeting, and treasury management.
  • Experience of managing external audit processes and delivering statutory accounts.
  • Strategic vision, with the ability to translate financial planning into long-term organisational success.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the credibility to influence at senior levels.
  • A collaborative, innovative, and resilient approach to leadership.

Experience within pensions or a similar regulatory environment would be an advantage, though not essential.
