The Head of Enterprise is a senior role within Roscommon County Council. The Head of Enterprise will lead a team charged with delivering a high standard quality system of coordinated and cohesive State support to the micro and small business sector and will be the first point of contact within the Local Authority for enterprises and investors in the county.

This is a key position within the Local Enterprise Office (LEO) structure of the local authority. The person appointed will play an important role in the development and implementation of a strategic plan to support enterprise, entrepreneurship and job creation at a local level and ensuring that the LEO serves as a First Stop Shop to provide services to start, grow and develop micro and small businesses in the local area.

Main Duties of the Job

Strong business acumen with experience that demonstrates an understanding of the phases of business development including a demonstrated ability to analyse and interpret business proposals from various perspectives, e.g. finance, marketing, process/operations, etc.

Experience of taking a creative and innovative approach to developing strategies to support enterprise development.

An in-depth knowledge of the factors that impact local and regional development as well as the development and needs of the micro enterprise and small business sector.

A knowledge of national policies and priorities in relation to enterprise and entrepreneurship.

An understanding of the LEO supports services and processes.

Information about the organisation

The Local Enterprise Offices are the local first-stop shop for new entrepreneurs and existing micro-enterprise and small business owners. The LEOs are the front door through which all information on state supports for small and micro-businesses can be accessed and signposted and through whichother supports and bodies with programmes relevant to small business as well as important localservices and compliance requirements can be provided. The offices deliver the combined functionsof the County Enterprise Boards, Business Development Units of the Local Authorities as well asdeveloping an enhanced service to business at local level.

The Local Authority has a broad remit in the business and economic development area with a focus on supporting and encouraging economic activity and job growth in the County.

The Head of Enterprise will lead the Council's roles in both delivering supports to businesses/ enterprises through the LEO while also promoting the County as a place of choice for investment for new and expanding businesses and enterprises.

An opportunity now exists in Roscommon County Council for the position of Head of Enterprise.

Salary Scale effective from 1st June 2026:

Hours of attendance will be fixed from time to time but will amount to not less than 35 hours gross per week.

The annual leave allowance for the position of Head of Enterprise is 30 days.
