Job Description

The Lead Enterprise Architect role reports into the CIO for Wholesale Risk and is responsible for the technical design of the target state architecture for the Wholesale Risk Domain. Key accountabilities include:

  • Design and implement the technical roadmap for the domain.
  • Establish a governance structure across the domain to ensure alignment with the target blueprint.
  • Lead senior engineers to achieve the target state.
  • Define functional and technical roadmaps for the next 3-5 years.
  • Lead the engineering excellence programme to maintain world-class standards.
  • Drive the competency framework for the engineering community.
  • Require programming experience in languages such as C/C++ or Java.
  • Build high distributed, scalable platforms, including grid-based or multi-threaded applications.
  • Experience in Risk domain assets like Interest Rate, Equity, FX, or Commodities.
  • Knowledge of Agile SDLC methodologies and software design patterns.
  • Define and communicate abstract design patterns for implementation by tech teams.

Purpose of the role

To develop and evolve the bank's technology architecture through solutions, strategies, and execution plans aligned with business and technology objectives, including foundational platforms and products.

Accountabilities

  • Develop and implement the bank's technology architecture and strategies.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including Enterprise Architecture teams and clients, to share knowledge and meet technical needs.
  • Lead diverse technologists, business, and operations teams to align strategies and standards.
  • Assess new technologies to meet current and future business needs.
  • Determine optimal solutions, balancing compliance, governance, security, and funding considerations.
  • Monitor application performance and stability, resolving issues and communicating findings.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and stay updated on industry developments.
  • Mentor and support engineering and architecture community initiatives.

Director Expectations

  • Manage a business function, contribute to strategic initiatives, and influence policy and procedures.
  • Lead a large team or act as a technical expert, guiding projects and collaborating cross-functionally.
  • Advise senior management and influence decisions outside own function.
  • Manage resourcing, budgeting, and policy creation for a sub-function.
  • Ensure compliance and regulatory adherence.
  • Monitor external environment and industry developments.
  • Apply advanced analytical skills to solve complex problems.
  • Negotiate and influence stakeholders at senior levels.
  • Act as a principal contact and spokesperson for the function.
