The Head of Direct Tax will play a pivotal role in shaping our global tax strategy, ensuring compliance and risk management, and enabling Deliveroo's commercial ambitions.
This role requires both technical depth and strong leadership skills. You will lead the direct tax and employment tax teams, partner with senior stakeholders across the business, and provide strategic input on international tax, reporting, and planning.
What You'll Be DoingTax Compliance, Reporting & Governance
- Oversee global direct tax reporting, compliance, and governance across all jurisdictions.
- Drive continuous improvements in processes and controls, leveraging technology solutions to enhance automation and accuracy.
- Partner with Finance and Legal to ensure robust risk management and audit readiness.
International Tax & Transfer Pricing
- Act as subject-matter expert for international corporate tax matters across the group.
- Oversee transfer pricing strategy, compliance, and documentation.
- Provide guidance on cross-border structuring, permanent establishment, and withholding tax matters.
- Lead defence strategies for tax audits and disputes, proactively preparing for controversy.
- Build strong relationships with tax authorities and external advisors across markets.
Leadership & People Development
- Lead, coach, and grow the direct tax and employment tax teams
- Build a high-performing team culture aligned to Deliveroo's values of innovation, agility, and impact.
Strategic Advisory & Business Partnering
- Provide relevant business advice on strategic matters including BEPS 2.0, OECD Pillar 2 implementation, and Digital Services Tax
- Support M&A, new market entry, and cross-functional projects with robust tax input.
- Advise the business on the tax impacts of commercial initiatives, employee mobility, and other ad hoc projects.
Qualifications: University degree; CTA, ACA, or equivalent tax/accounting qualification.
Experience:
- Significant post-qualification experience in international corporate tax (Big 4 and/or in-house at a multinational).
- Proven track record of managing global direct tax matters in a fast-paced, high-growth business.
- Strong understanding of UK tax as well as OECD developments (BEPS 2.0, Pillar 2) and Digital Services Tax desirable.
- Prior experience leading a high-performing tax team.
