We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated Head of Design & Technology to lead a successful and supportive team. The appointed person will be required to teach across KS3 and KS4, with the ability to teach all ability ranges as well as academic and vocational courses. This role involves managing the DT Team (including technicians). You will also be responsible for the management of effective and efficient teaching and learning support in key areas of the school. You will conduct regular meetings, professional development and coaching with staff, setting targets and improving performance. In addition, you will be responsible for overseeing the extra-curricular provision in the Design & Technology Department. We have a range of departmental initiatives which provide opportunities for the right candidate to cultivate their creative capabilities.

Key Tasks:
• To provide leadership that ensures effective teaching and learning in the DT Department.
• To ensure effective delivery of the DT curriculum across KS3 and KS4.
• To be responsible for the co-ordination, organisation and administration of the DT Department.
• To make a full contribution to the life of the school.
Key Responsibilities:
• Promoting a vision which will lead the DT Department.
• Leading by example the work of the DT Department team and the students.
• Ensuring the good learning of all students in DT.
• Identifying, monitoring and ensuring good academic progress of all the students in DT.
• Ensuring that the DT Department has good curriculum design, schemes of learning and associated teaching resources.
• Monitoring and ensuring the good quality of work for all members of the DT Department.
• Supporting teachers, particularly ECTs, appropriately.
• Identifying and implementing appropriate developments with regard to curriculum, syllabus and programmes of study in DT.
• Maintaining good standards of behaviour and work in DT lessons in line with the School Behaviour Management policy.
• Teaching a timetable commensurate with the post.
• To lead a team of technicians including directing where lesson support is required and allocating support and preparation tasks.
• To organise the resourcing of the department, including the ordering and preparation of practical materials and ingredients, creation of lesson resources and assessment materials.
• To ensure that Health and Safety practices are upheld, including the writing and implementation of policies, ensuring staff have the necessary training qualifications and preparing for the necessary inspections.
Qualifications:
• To have a degree in DT or a related subject
• To be a qualified teacher of DT
• To have a commitment to your own education and training
• To have a good standard of general education including GCSE Maths and English
• To have the suitable health and safety qualifications such as through DATA
Experience:
• To have experience of working effectively within a team and playing a motivating role
• To have teaching experience in a culturally diverse secondary school
• To have experience of implementing teaching interventions and evaluating their effectiveness
• To have experience of taking a lead role in departmental initiatives
• To show an understanding of a range of teaching and learning strategies
