Your roleThe head of content leads the news team, working closely with the editorial online and print teams to deliver a distinctive, agenda-setting content package across all platforms. This job is responsible for ensuring world-class standards of digital and print journalism, and leading the editorial team in digital-first commissioning and publishing. You will lead a team of excellent journalists to deliver great work in line with deadlines. As Head of Content, you will help drive exclusive coverage for both the newspaper and the website - including first-class video content - across seven days. Our newsroom is multi-platform so you will need to understand the needs of both the traditional print audience and its growing online audience, and deliver for both.
Day to day you will:- Help lead, and manage, a team of skilled reporters to bring in agenda-setting stories which chime with Irish Sun audience
- Have an awareness and passion for all things news, showbiz and politics to help drive exclusive story ideas
- Develop news lists with a focus on multi-media opportunities, such as video and podcasts
- Maximise print and digital content to serve both audiences
- Forward planning for events and rotas
- Work closely with the online team to identify audience trends and data insights
- You will be a strong communicator with a drive for success for you and your team.
- Adaptable to changing priorities across both print and digital
- Be motivational leader of a large team, supporting the growth and development of the team
- Use audience data to help guide commissioning of stories
- Generate top-class ideas and guide them through to become multi-platform stories
- Forward-plan, working with journalists on long-range projects and big campaigns
- Experience and knowledge of working in a fast-paced newsroom environment
- Demonstrable interest in news and current affairs
- Develop The Irish Sun's off diary operation and improve the quality and quantity of our original content
- Strong people management skills, experience of working collaboratively with multi disciplinary teams
- Clear and effective communication skills, with a drive for success for you and your team.
- An ability to be a motivational leader of a large team, supporting the growth and development of individuals
- An ability to work effectively and calmly in a busy role with competing priorities
- Clear, and structured organisations skills with the ability to look beyond the day-to-day pressures with forward planning for major stories
- Flexibility to work across 7 days
- A strong understanding of editorial compliance and regulatory issues
