Head of Automation Engineering Design

Tesco is on a journey to transform through innovative automation and intelligent design. We're looking for an experienced Head of Automation Engineering Design to lead the design and development of innovative automation solutions across our warehousing and distribution network.
You will be responsible for:
- Leading the planning & design of multiple complex, large-scale automation projects across the Tesco estate, collaborating with Distribution & Fulfilment, Engineering, Maintenance, Property, IT, and Technology teams.
- Leading a team of Automation Engineering Managers to analyze data, deliver conceptual designs, review RFIs, proposals, contracts, and oversee on-site testing.
- Developing functional design specifications and user requirements to support project teams in commercial tendering and contract negotiations.
- Supporting strategic projects for new builds and retrofitting automation in existing sites.
- Understanding fundamental mechatronic and software technologies to reduce the Cost To Serve of automation sites.
- Applying industrial engineering principles to develop automation systems based on operational data.
- Demonstrating technical knowledge, insights into new technologies, and automation network expertise to deliver innovative solutions.
- Building productive relationships with senior partners to enable change programs and ensure project delivery within scope, time, and budget.
Requirements include:
- Experience with AMR, AGV, conveyor, and sortation systems.
- Data analysis and interpretation skills for process improvement design.
- Experience in project design and delivery, including writing specifications.
- Good understanding of industry standards.
- Proficiency in CE compliance, PUWER, and AutoCAD.
- In-depth knowledge of automation plant and systems within the sector.
- Experience in specification, design, procurement, project management, installation assurance, and maintenance of automation equipment.
