Job Description

Principal Connections has been retained by a leading professional services firm providing accounting, compliance, and advisory services to a diverse portfolio of Small and Medium Sized Enterprises across multiple sectors in the appointment of a Head of Accounting, based remotely anywhere across the Island of Ireland. The organisation is recognised for its client centric approach, strong technical standards, and commitment to delivering practical, high quality advice that supports sustainable business growth.

The Position

Reporting to the CEO, the Head of Accounting is a senior leadership role with responsibility for the overall performance, quality, and development of the accounting function. The role leads accounting managers and a wider team to ensure the consistent delivery of high quality accounting, compliance, and advisory services, while maintaining robust technical standards and a strong client service culture. Working closely with peers across the leadership group, the role drives operational efficiency, margin improvement, and service innovation. The position acts as a senior escalation point for complex technical and client matters, contributes to firm wide strategy and decision making, and plays a key role in shaping systems, processes, and service models to support sustainable growth.

Requirements

The successful candidate will be a qualified accountant with extensive post qualification experience, ideally gained within professional practice, and a proven track record of leading and developing high performing accounting teams. Strong technical knowledge of Irish accounting standards, taxation, and compliance requirements is essential, along with the ability to provide clear guidance and oversight in complex matters. In addition, the role requires strong commercial acumen, excellent stakeholder management skills, and the ability to balance service quality with profitability. The ideal candidate will be comfortable operating in a fast paced, scaling environment, demonstrate sound judgement and strategic thinking, and bring a collaborative, values led leadership style.
