Job Description
Head Chef

DSFS are looking to recruit the right person into the position of Head Chef who will join our team on a full-time basis, working within Café at the Royal, located at the main entrance at Chesterfield Royal Hospital.

This opportunity offers shifts 5 days per week, Monday to Friday, working shifts with starting times of 7am and finishing at 3pm.

Our team is the focal point for patients, visitors and staff in the Hospital. We are looking for someone who is an experienced Chef and will thrive in this role, creating the right environment for our staff and visitors alike.

Main duties of the job
  • Responsible for overseeing kitchen operations, preparing high-quality meals, and managing kitchen staff to ensure an exceptional dining experience for our customers.
  • Create and develop menus using seasonal ingredients, ensuring dishes are cost effective and nutritious.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to issue instructions in a calm manner.
  • Ability to keep calm under pressure.
  • Will be pivotal in ensuring full compliance with all Food Safety Guidelines.

Job responsibilities

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Level 3 Advanced Food Hygiene Qualification
  • Trained to Diploma level in Catering City & Guilds 706/1 & 2 or equivalent NVQs
  • Level 4 Food Safety or equivalent knowledge or working towards accreditation
  • Knowledge and understanding of current issues in the NHS relating to catering services
Experience
  • Experience in a similar position being responsible for standards and service within a service led and customer environment.
  • Able to make decisions.
  • Experience within commercial/branded retail and/or NHS catering operations.
  • Experience with menu planning.
Skills & Knowledge
  • Able to manage, motivate and lead a team.
  • A good communicator, able to converse easily and well at all levels.
  • Enthusiastic and having a passion for food.
  • Excellent customer care skills.
  • Work well under pressure and able to prioritise.
  • Strong knowledge of HACCP, COSSH and Health and Safety legislation.
Personal Attributes
  • Self motivated and able to motivate others.
  • Able to work on their own initiative.
