Job Description

We are currently hiring a Haemovigilance Officer for our client hospital in Dublin, Ireland .
Responsibilities
- Possess advanced knowledge and expertise in haemovigilance and transfusion practices, providing specialist guidance beyond standard clinical practice.
- Promote safe and appropriate use of blood and blood components by reducing wastage and encouraging suitable transfusion alternatives.
- Lead the identification, management, reporting, investigation, and closure of transfusion-related adverse events, reactions, near-misses, and non-conformances.
- Provide clinical leadership, act as a resource for multidisciplinary teams, and contribute to the development and review of transfusion policies and procedures.
- Advocate for patients and families, supporting their involvement in decisions related to transfusion care and treatment.
- Drive quality improvement initiatives, ensuring compliance with haemovigilance legislation, regulatory standards, and hospital quality requirements.
- Plan, conduct, and evaluate haemovigilance audits, perform root cause analyses, and implement corrective and preventive actions to enhance transfusion safety.
- Investigate transfusion reactions, support infection lookbacks and product recalls, monitor key performance indicators, and ensure 100% traceability of blood products.
- Develop, deliver, and evaluate haemovigilance education and training programs while maintaining accurate training records and supporting staff competency.
- Demonstrate strong IT proficiency, leadership, communication, teamwork, change management, and continuous professional development skills to support effective haemovigilance services.
- Registered Nurse or CORU-registered Medical Scientist.
- Minimum of 5 years' post-registration experience.
- Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field such as Haemovigilance, Risk Management, Blood Transfusion, or Haematology.
- Strong organizational, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Previous experience in Haemovigilance.
- Experience in staff education and training.
- Knowledge and experience in Root Cause Analysis (RCA), risk management, and clinical audits.
