About the Role

Please note that this volunteer role involves supporting a group for specific periods throughout the year.

Commitment & Schedule

Applicants must be able to commit to a minimum of six months to support Cognitive Stimulation Therapy sessions, which run in seven week blocks, twice a week. Sessions last one hour and may take place on Tuesday mornings or afternoons, Wednesday mornings, Thursday mornings or afternoons, or Friday mornings. The expectation is that volunteers attend two sessions per week. Please only apply if you are able to support this schedule.

Responsibilities

As a Group Facilitator Volunteer, you'll provide key support with the administration and running of the group by coordinating and facilitating activities, welcoming people to the group and keeping records of those attending. You'll also help set up and tidy up after the group, as well as encouraging participants to take part in the activities on offer. You may have opportunities to facilitate sessions independently if needed.

Requirements

This role will be subject to a satisfactory Criminal Records Check from either the Disclosure and Barring Service (England & Wales), Disclosure Scotland Check (Scotland) or AccessNI (Northern Ireland).

  • You have good verbal communication and facilitation skills.
  • You are confident and enthusiastic.
  • You enjoy meeting new people and being part of a team.
  • You are aware of or are willing to learn about dementia and its impact on people.
  • You can demonstrate empathy and compassion.

Minimum age: 18.
