Job Description
Graduate Academic Coach

Do you want broad secondary school experience before moving into teacher training or educational psychology? Could you support pupils across the curriculum through 1:1 and small-group intervention that builds confidence and progress?

  • Graduate Academic Coach
  • September 2026 to July 2027
  • £85 - £100 per day
  • 'Good' secondary school, Wednesbury
  • 1:1 and small group support across the curriculum
The Role

Provide 1:1 and small-group support across a range of subjects, helping pupils stay engaged, close gaps in learning, and build confidence in the classroom. You will reinforce lesson content, support revision, prepare simple resources, and feed back clearly to teachers on progress. Teaching assistants commonly support teachers in the classroom and help pupils with reading, writing, and learning activities.

The Candidate

You are adaptable, organised, and able to explain ideas clearly to pupils with different needs and starting points. You want practical school-based experience, enjoy working across a busy secondary setting, and are keen to make a useful impact before progressing into teaching or a psychology related career.

Requirements
  • Degree - A 2:2 or above in any subject.
  • Communication - Clear and confident verbal and written communication.
  • Enhanced DBS - Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate. Child facing school roles may be eligible for an enhanced check depending on duties.
  • Desire to work in education/with children - Genuine interest in supporting pupil progress and wellbeing.
  • Career Goals - A desire to train as a teacher or pursue a career in educational or clinical psychology.
The School

This 'Good' secondary school in Wednesbury has clear routines, supportive leadership, and a collaborative staff team. You will gain experience across different subject areas, benefit from shared resources and practical guidance, and build a strong understanding of how effective support helps pupils make progress in a mainstream secondary setting.
