Job Summary

Coach basketball in secondary school athletic program

Performance Responsibilities

Knowledge and Abilities
  • Fundamentals of sport

  • Assist other coaches
  • Understand and follow oral and written directions
  • Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, polices & procedures

Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with students, peers, and parents.

Performance responsibilities:
  • Promote sport in the schools and community
  • Plan the wrestling program
  • Organize and supervise practices
  • Teach individual fundamental skills, team play, team strategy and rules and regulations of the game
  • Teach good sportsmanship and self-control
  • Check eligibility of participants, including insurance coverage and parent consent
  • Provide students a proper role model, emotional support, patience, a friendly attitude and general guidance
  • Determine appropriate action within clearly defined guidelines
  • Present a positive image of the district to parents and community
  • Demonstrate concern with the education, growth and development of each student
  • Seek to develop a positive relationship between home and school
  • Recommend the purchase of equipment, supplies and uniforms as appropriate for the health, safety and welfare of student athletes
  • Adhere to the Newport Board of Education Policies and Procedures

Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED certification, preferred
  • 21 years of age
  • Has met requirements of a criminal records check and child abuse background check as specified by KY State Law
  • Successful completion of all trainings courses as specified by KHSAA

Demonstrates knowledge of sporting rules, regulations, and guidelines.

  • Paid per the approved athletic extra-service salary schedule
