Job Description

GeoAI Developer

Our client is part of the United Nations and they are looking for a GeoAL Developer for a 60 day project (December-April 2026), with possible extension

Objectives

Develop a Python-based GeoAI module as part of a robust infrastructure to support:

  • Feature extraction from satellite imagery
  • Change detection over time
  • Field data validation
  • Use cases such as land cover classification, surface water mapping, and wetland mapping

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the ICT Solutions Coordinator and GIS team, the consultant will:

  • Review the current GIS and AI infrastructure
  • Understand project requirements and GeoAI needs
  • Advise on technology stack selection
  • Support DevOps in staging and production setup
  • Provide feedback on data pipelines, including field data collection and ML verification
  • Develop Python-based GeoAI functions for imagery analysis and validation
  • Assist in model training or integration of pretrained models
  • Produce technical documentation
  • Perform other tasks related to GeoAI functionality as required

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum 5 years in the geospatial domain (include at least two reference projects in CV)
  • Expertise in FOSS4G tools: PostgreSQL/PostGIS, Geoserver, Geonode, GDAL
  • Experience with Earth Observation: optical, SAR, hyperspectral imagery
  • Proven skills in AI & GeoAI: object detection, feature extraction, predictive modelling
  • Familiarity with big data/cloud platforms: Google Earth Engine, AWS, Microsoft Planetary Computer
  • Knowledge of OGC-compliant web services (WMS, WMTS, WFS, CSW), REST APIs, STAC, vector tiles
  • Basic understanding of containerized infrastructure (Kubernetes)
  • Ability to produce clear technical documentation

Excellent written and verbal English
