Genome Biology Team Leader

Location: GSK Stevenage (UK) - Customer Site

Job Responsibilities Managerial Duties
  • Supervise and contribute to the team in the delivery of high quality support to customers.
  • Oversee work, training, development and safety of all reporting staff; manage operational and performance issues.
  • Assist in recruiting suitable personnel for the TLS team, handle induction, training and routine performance management.
  • Ensure team procedures are performed in line with relevant safety regulations.
  • Assist in the creation of SOPs, work instructions, local method statements and risk assessments.
  • Ascertain relevant quality, skill or safety requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with all working instructions, SOPs and safety instructions.
  • Act as an ambassador for TLS and promote PerkinElmer's core values.
  • Escalate business development opportunities to line manager.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of data including performance metrics.
Operational Duties
  • Perform routine laboratory research activities including cell culture, sample preparation and assay reagent and media supply.
  • Carry out various biological assays as determined by departmental projects or packages, using manual and automated techniques.
  • Analyze and report data using corporate tools; apply QC rules to determine acceptability.
  • Track assay performance metrics, communicate issues and suggest improvements to current assay methodology.
  • Support evaluation of new technologies where applicable.
  • Participate actively in scientific teams, presenting data and seeking innovation opportunities.
  • Maintain training and compliance in health, safety, security, environmental and operational aspects.
  • Actively seek opportunities to develop service through discussion with the team leader, customers and sharing best practices.
  • Operate to approved quality standards, working independently and flexibly to meet team priorities.

Basic Qualifications
  • Demonstrable experience leading teams, delivering training or coaching and mentoring staff in an industry setting.
  • BSc or equivalent in a relevant scientific subject (e.g., Biology, Biotechnology or Biomedical Sciences) with relevant laboratory experience.
  • 2 years of technical expertise performing a variety of laboratory bioassays using manual and automated techniques.
  • Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and laboratory safety practices.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's or Doctorate in a relevant scientific subject (e.g., Biology, Biotechnology or Biomedical Sciences).
  • Advanced experience with techniques such as flow cytometry, cellular imaging, meso scale discovery, ELISA, qPCR, Next Generation Sequencing and/or CRISPR.
  • Experience with advanced cell culture systems such as organoids, iPSC, and/or air/liquid interface models.
  • Computational skills for automated data acquisition and analysis; familiarity with related data analysis applications.
  • Knowledge of GCP, GCLP and GMP principles in pharmaceutical environments.
  • Knowledge of 5S and/or 6 sigma principles is a plus.
Working Environment

Must be able to work in laboratory and controlled environments requiring personal protective equipment (lab coat, safety glasses, etc.). Handle biohazards with completion of blood borne pathogen surveillance. Hepatitis B vaccination may be required; vaccination programme available for successful candidates not already vaccinated or requiring boosters. Must remain in a stationary position more than 25% of the time. Potential risk includes extreme temperature, biological materials and hazardous chemicals. May be required to complete Medical Clearance, Respiratory Protection Training and fit testing to wear a respirator.
