The RoleWoodside Haulage is looking for an experienced General Manager to take overall responsibility for the day-to-day management and performance of our Preston Depot. This is a varied and hands-on leadership role, with responsibility across operations, compliance and health & safety. The successful candidate will be a confident transport professional who can balance operational demands with strong people leadership, while maintaining high standards of compliance and service.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead and manage the day-to-day operation of the Preston Depot, ensuring safe, efficient and effective delivery of operational requirements.
- Coordinate and manage drivers, ensuring compliance with Road Traffic legislation, Drivers' Hours and Working Time Regulations.
- Ensure the depot operates in accordance with all relevant health & safety legislation, company policies and procedures.
- Ensure the site remains compliant with all applicable operating legislation and regulatory requirements, providing advice and direction where required.
- Ensure all vehicles are maintained in a safe, legal and compliant condition.
- Manage depot maintenance and repairs in conjunction with Group Facilities and relevant internal teams.
- Drive operational performance through effective planning, processes and procedures.
- Monitor depot performance and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, service and cost effectiveness.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures and relevant industry regulations.
- Participate in risk management meetings and ensure agreed actions are implemented.
- Lead and take responsibility for internal and external audits, ensuring the depot is prepared and actions are followed through to completion.
- Take responsibility for employee relations matters, including chairing disciplinary, grievance and absence review meetings.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across the wider Woodside Logistics Group to support business objectives and continuous improvement.
We are looking for an experienced transport or logistics leader who is confident managing people, operations and compliance within a fast-paced environment.
You will have:- A Transport Manager Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC).
- A minimum of 2 years' experience in a leadership or managerial role within a logistics or transport environment.
- Strong knowledge of transport legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Experience of being named on an Operator Licence within the transport industry.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
