General Assistant Catering
Job Purpose: To assist the hospitality service by ensuring a high-quality food and beverage service is provided to customers including staff, students and visitors.
Grade: 1
Department: Hospitality, Accommodation and Conferencing Services
Reporting to: Catering Supervisor
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. To assist in the service of food, clearing and cleaning of dishes/equipment and facilities in all Hospitality locations on campus.
Customer Service
2. To provide consistently high standards of customer service at all times when welcoming and serving customers including serving meals, operating the till, and assisting with food service in cafes or dining areas. Report any customer comments or complaints to supervisors.
Cleaning & Hygiene
3. Washing crockery, cutlery, and kitchen utensils; cleaning work surfaces, floors, and equipment according to hygiene standards. Ensuring correct cleaning products and dilutions of cleaning materials are used as per training.
Stock & Deliveries
4. Checking, storing, and rotating food deliveries; reporting stock shortages to management.
Event Setup
5. Arranging tables, chairs, and service areas for events, lunches, or banquets.
Assisting with Food Preparation
6. Assisting with washing, peeling, chopping vegetables, and preparing basic food items like salads, sandwiches, and desserts. You will be required to use correct equipment in the correct preparation areas in accordance with food hygiene regulations, practices and procedures (as per training).
Health & Safety
7. Adhering to food safety regulations (e.g., COSHH, HACCP) and reporting any equipment faults. Monitor and report any defective/missing equipment, utensils, surfaces or furniture.
Waste & Recycling
8. To ensure correct disposal in accordance with procedures.
Allergens & Menu knowledge
9. To ensure food products are correctly and attractively displayed, and maintain a knowledge of menu items especially those that may contain food allergens and provide guidance as required.
Handling cash
10.To take cash transactions using the cash register, including cash float, issuing of receipts, correct prices charged, cashing up at the end of a shift ensuring safe storage of takings in accordance with Stranmillis University College cash handling procedures.
Other
11.To participate in training as required in all aspects of the role.
12.Maintain the highest standard of personal hygiene and appearance i.e., wearing the college uniform provided, ensuring it is clean and pressed. Use PPE as per training.
13.To carry out any reasonable duties as requested.
