Job Description
Facilities Assistant / Caretaker 
We're looking for a reliable and proactive Facilities Assistant to help keep our buildings safe, clean and running smoothly. If you take pride in maintaining high standards and enjoy a hands on role with plenty of variety, this is a great opportunity to join our team.
Location: Derby
Shifts: Monday- Friday- alternate shifts
Shift Patterns: 06:30- 14:30 one week then 12:30-20:30
Key Responsibilities- Building security - Open and lock the premises daily, manage alarm systems, and ensure the building is safe for staff and visitors.
- Maintenance tasks - Carry out minor repairs (e.g., lights, lockers, fittings), report major faults, and support routine testing of emergency systems.
- Cleaning support - Assist with cleaning duties, restock consumables, inspect and maintain toilet areas, and monitor contractor standards.
- Porterage - Move furniture, equipment and supplies, receive deliveries, and distribute goods throughout the building.
- Mail handling - Sort, distribute and transport internal and external mail, including runs to the Council House.
- Recycling duties - Collect recyclable materials and place them in designated bins.
- Contractor support - Guide contractors to work locations as required.
- Emergency assistance - Support fire evacuations, bomb alerts and other building emergencies, including testing and resetting equipment.
- Car park upkeep - Manage allocated parking spaces, sweep and de litter outdoor areas, and arrange skip emptying when needed.
- Training - Attend relevant training as directed.
- Uniform & PPE - Wear corporate uniform and use provided protective equipment.
- Cross site cover - Provide support at other council administrative centres when required.
