Job Description
The Digital Engineering Faculty at the University of Potsdam invites applications for a joint professorship under the Thuringia Modell with the Hasso Plattner Institute for Digital Engineering gGmbH (HPI) to be filled as soon as possible: Full Professorship (W3) or Artificial Intelligence & Quantitative Finance We are looking for an internationally renowned scholar with an outstanding research profile at the intersection of financial technology, artificial intelligence, quantitative methods, and the digital transformation of the financial industry. The ideal candidate is a creative and interdisciplinary academic who combines scientific excellence with a strong connection to practical applications. Knowledge of German is not required at the time of appointment. Possible (non-exhaustive) research topics include: Integration of AI techniques into stochastic financial models Application of statistical methods and machine learning to financial markets Numerical methods and simulation in finance Algorithmic decision support in financial systems Data-driven and AI-supported approaches in risk and investment management The successful candidate is expected to: Publish in leading international journals and conferences Demonstrate experience in leading interdisciplinary research projects and teams Show academic leadership or coordination experience Have a strong track record in securing competitive third-party funding Provide evidence of successful transfer of research results to industry, regulatory authorities, or other organizations Supervise theses, especially at the doctoral level Teach with enthusiasm at undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels Contribute to interdisciplinary collaboration and exhibit strong teamwork skills We offer: A vibrant academic environment with strong research clusters in Systems, Data & AI, Cybersecurity, Foundations, Business & Society, and Digital Health Access to extensive computing resources and high-quality datasets Excellent support for research collaboration and entrepreneurship The opportunity to shape the emerging Financial Technology research area within the Business & Society cluster Dual career support, coaching opportunities, and family-friendly working conditions If you have any questions, please contact Prof. Dr. Tobias Friedrich (). The joint appointment will be implemented according to the "Thuringia Model" with a teaching obligation at the University of Potsdam in accordance with the Brandenburg Higher Education Act (BbgHG). The hiring process is subject to the requirements set forth in Section 43 subsection 1 sentence 1 no. 1 - 3 and no. 4 letters a and c of the BbgHG. The appointment procedure is conducted in accordance with Section 42 BbgHG.
