What you'll do:- Act as a trusted advisor to the business by ensuring compliance with all relevant financial services laws, regulations, and best practices including PSD2, EMD2, AML/CTF, consumer protection, and outsourcing guidelines.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of third party contracts such as customer facing agreements, merchant acquiring contracts, and vendor contracts while considering outsourcing and DORA requirements.
- Provide practical legal advice on regulated products and services by exercising sound judgement and commercial acumen to assess and mitigate legal and regulatory risks.
- Work closely with legal advisers across multiple brands within the group to coordinate legal support spanning regulatory matters, commercial contracts, data privacy issues, and tax considerations.
- Collaborate with external counsel when necessary to address complex legal and regulatory challenges affecting the business.
- Support corporate governance activities including board resolutions and company secretarial tasks to ensure robust organisational oversight.
- Apply a solutions oriented approach to legal advice by adapting quickly to changes in the business environment and proactively identifying areas for improvement.
- Build strong relationships with cross functional teams such as Compliance, Risk, Finance, and Procurement to align legal advice with strategic objectives while fostering positive working relationships.
- Communicate complex legal concepts clearly in both written and verbal forms so that non legal stakeholders can easily understand implications and recommendations.
- Contribute to building a best in class legal team by developing tools, templates, procedures, and delivering training sessions on legal, regulatory and payments matters.
- Excellent academic credentials complemented by experience gained both in house and at major law firms are preferred for this position.
- Demonstrable expertise in compliance with payments legislation (PSD2), e money directives (EMD2), consumer protection laws, outsourcing regulations, financial crime prevention measures within the EEA context is essential.
- Proven understanding of the payments ecosystem including its operational intricacies is highly desirable.
- Experience providing nuanced legal advice on design and management of payment products across multiple jurisdictions-especially within the EEA and UK-for full product lifecycles is required.
- Track record of drafting, negotiating, and advising on customer facing contracts that meet rigorous regulatory standards is vital.
- Ability to proactively identify associated risks within contractual or operational frameworks while recommending effective mitigation strategies is crucial.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills enabling you to manage stakeholder relationships collaboratively across different functions are necessary.
- Capacity to tolerate change gracefully while applying sound judgement amid ambiguity in evolving regulatory landscapes is important.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities paired with strong organisational skills are expected for success in this role.
- Ability to work dependably both independently using own initiative as well as collaboratively within team settings is fundamental.
