Job Description

We are looking for a skilled Freelance Compliance Consultant with in-depth expertise in insurance regulation to strengthen our compliance framework. The consultant will provide strategic and hands-on support on GDPR, Anti-Money Laundering (AML), and Insurance Distribution Directive (IDD) compliance. This role requires a strong understanding of regulatory obligations across the insurance value chain and the ability to translate them into effective internal controls.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct compliance gap assessments and advise on remediation plans aligned with GDPR, AMLD, and IDD requirements.
  • Implement and maintain policies and procedures related to data protection, distribution conduct rules, and anti-financial crime measures.
  • Support the oversight and governance of insurance distribution activities, including product governance, transparency requirements, and fair customer outcomes (IDD).
  • Guide on data processing, privacy notices, consent management, and breach protocols under GDPR.
  • Strengthen AML/CTF frameworks including customer due diligence (CDD/KYC), ongoing monitoring, and reporting of suspicious activities.
  • Assist with compliance monitoring plans, internal audits, and regulatory inspections.
  • Deliver staff training on GDPR, AML, and IDD to ensure regulatory awareness and compliance culture.
  • Monitor and interpret relevant regulatory developments (EIOPA guidelines, EU directives, local law) affecting the insurance sector.


Qualifications & Experience

  • At least 5 years of compliance experience in the insurance or financial services sector.
  • Solid knowledge of the Insurance Distribution Directive (IDD), GDPR, and EU AML Directives.
  • Experience working with regulators and implementing compliance frameworks.
  • Relevant professional certifications are a strong asset (e.g., CIPP/E, CAMS, ICA, or equivalent).
  • Strong communication and advisory skills; able to influence at all levels of the organization.
  • Fluent in English; other EU languages (especially French or German) are a plus.
