Education is a key sector for Galliford Try. The education sector accounts for approximately 36% of the building division turnover, with national coverage and expertise across regional offices. A large share of education sector orders are framework-procured, underscoring our relationships and ongoing work with clients.
We have a national education team, led by our Education Director, overseeing the portfolio and driving excellence and innovation. Our education team maintains deep sector experience and ensures consistency through eleven regional offices.
What you will be doingGalliford Try operates across multiple Department for Education (DfE) Construction Framework lots in England. This role supports the North East, Yorkshire and the North West. The Construction Framework supports school building programmes and aims to meet a range of needs for schools, academies, free schools and sixth form colleges. Projects may include large new builds, refurbishments or remodellings and include early contractor involvement, design and build, or traditional delivery.
The Framework Director's key responsibilities include:
- Act as a single point of contact for the DfE Regional and Programme Managers
- Support project delivery teams at key gateways and monitor performance to align with DfE framework requirements
- Provide consistent oversight for every project from inception through to defects liability period
- Train and inform delivery teams on local competition protocol, PI requirements and delivery timescales
Act as Framework Director for DfE Frameworks including:
- Provide oversight, direction and governance of DfE Framework schemes
- Assist with pipeline management and liaise with Regional Businesses to track opportunities and bid decisions
- Attend Bidders' Days and ensure understanding of projects (scope, geography, funding, market interest, commercial attractiveness, risk, etc.)
- Brief and advise Regional Businesses bid teams (internal and external)
- Support bid management (writing, reviewing and production) and oversee local competition responses with the Bid Manager and Regional bidding team; manage SPM processes with the Regional operational delivery team
- Assist with selecting and appointing consultants, advisers, design teams and supply chain partners; brief and advise them on coordination, inputs/outputs
- Attend school/client engagements, design team meetings and internal meetings during bidding stages
- Strategic oversight of the transition from bidding to operational teams at SPM and during construction
- Framework-level oversight of the construction stage and delivery of Soft Landings and Delivering Excellence
- Assist with production of project reviews and client satisfaction reports
- Collect and collate KPI, progress and other data for reporting to GT Building Board and the DfE
- Be the first point of contact for DfE Project Directors and develop relationships with DfE Project Directors, Programme teams and associated Technical Advisers, PMs and QSs
- Organise and deliver framework workshops, training sessions, briefings and lessons learned reviews
- Share best practice between bid teams and Business Units
- Provide monthly scheme-specific summaries relating to cost, time, performance and key issues
- Produce quarterly Active Scheme presentations for DfE Regional Heads
- Ensure continuity and continuous improvement project-to-project
- Refine bid and engagement processes, client relationships and delivery systems
- Improve commercial understanding and strategy, including margins
- Promote framework behaviours on DfE schemes and improve value for money in bid and delivery costs
- Assist with implementing the Galliford Try Standardised School model and brief new teams
- Liaise with key supply chain partners (with Procurement Manager) to improve pricing, reliability and quality
- As part of the education sector leadership team, participate in the Education Sector Strategy and Higher Education Strategy development and implementation
- Contribute to education sector marketing events and explore opportunities across other frameworks and potential projects
- Ideally senior-level experience within a UK construction organisation
- Ability to lead and manage individuals and teams, both direct and indirect
- Ability to work remotely and be self-managing while maintaining team spirit
- Skilled at building effective internal and external relationships
- Strategic thinking capability and gravitas to influence at senior levels
- Well-developed oral and presentation/communication skills
