Fork Lift Truck Operative

Purpose of Role

To operate forklift trucks to safely and efficiently move, load, and store goods, supporting the smooth operation of the gatehouse, laminating & finishing departments. The role plays a key part in maintaining operational deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely operate forklifts (counterbalance, reach truck, etc.) to move goods in line with company procedures.
• Load and unload vehicles, ensuring accuracy of deliveries and dispatches.
• Relocate and stack goods in designated locations.
• Conduct daily safety checks on forklift equipment and report defects.
• Assist with stock control, inventory counts, and documentation.
• Ensure safe handling of goods, particularly fragile materials.
• Maintain a clean and organised work environment.
• Work closely with operations & finishing departments to meet KPIs and deadlines.

Key Relationships

• Internal: Gatehouse Supervisor, Finishing Manager, Health & Safety Officers.
• External: Delivery Drivers, Contractors (when applicable).

Skills, Experience & Qualifications Essential Qualifications

• Valid forklift license (e.g., RTITB)
• Previous experience in a forklift/warehouse environment
• Understanding of warehouse safety and manual handling procedures
• Ability to read and complete basic documentation and stock records

Desirable Qualifications

• Experience operating different types of forklifts (e.g., VNA, side loader)
• Familiarity with warehouse management systems (WMS)
• Basic computer skills (for scanning, inventory systems)
