Job Description
Job overview 
Food Service Assistant - Patient Catering Team, Worthing Hospital. 15 hours per week, Monday to Friday 4 pm to 7 pm (part time).
Responsibilities Communication Duties- Maintain good communication with ward staff, team members and other hospital departments.
- Communicate effectively with patients and relatives to meet food and beverage requirements.
- Respond courteously, cooperatively and sympathetically, respecting privacy, dignity and confidentiality.
- Read and understand written and verbal instructions; complete HACCP records accurately.
- Follow instruction and direction from catering team leaders and senior ward staff.
- Ensure daily orders are communicated in a timely manner to enable the Catering Department to deliver food on time.
- Use appropriate communication skills to respond to aggressive or abusive behaviour, reporting to the nurse in charge when necessary.
- Report any concerns regarding a patient's nutritional or fluid intake to the nurse in charge.
- Assist nursing staff in updating the nutritional board in the ward area.
- Understand basic HACCP principles and food hygiene policies; respond to straightforward day to day issues.
- Report health and safety or food safety issues to the team leader promptly, including equipment failures or defects.
- Recognise when advice is required from the team leader and be able to escalate problems and concerns.
- NVQ Level 2 in Hospitality/Customer Services or similar experience in a care environment.
- L2 Food Safety Award or relevant food hygiene experience.
- COSHH training.
- Experience completing HACCP/food safety documentation.
- Previous work in a busy catering environment or healthcare setting.
- Good command of written and spoken English, and basic literacy and numeracy skills.
- Evidence of ongoing personal development to improve understanding of equality issues.
- Evidence of championing diversity in previous roles where relevant.
- Evidence of ongoing development in equality, diversity and inclusion issues.
This role does not meet the minimum criteria for visa sponsorship under current immigration rules; applicants must already have the right to work in the UK. Individuals with a Graduate visa must have at least 18 months remaining at the time of application.
