The Fitness Attendant responsibilities are to monitor the fitness centre, provide orientations/facility tours and show clients proper equipment use and facility etiquette, clean and maintain equipment, promote the facility and memberships, and provide customer service (answer questions, provide information, update files, answer phones and print class lists).
We provide high-quality, accessible recreation opportunities across Kingston's facilities, including arenas, pools, marinas, sports fields, and community centres. Our team ensures these spaces are well-maintained and welcoming, supporting programs, groups and activities that bring people together and promote active living.
Responsibilities- Greet customers and verify membership or payment
- Provide on-site supervision, fitness equipment orientations, equipment demonstrations, fitness facility tours, and monitor participant safety (exercise & use of equipment)
- Provide information pertaining to fitness centre programs, memberships and clinics
- Clean and maintain equipment
- Open and/or close the Centre as required
- Promote fitness centre and programs to clients
- High School (Grade 12) diploma or equivalent
- 1 year certificate in Personal Training, to be maintained at the employee's expense
- Six (6) months experience in a fitness and/or personal training setting
- Diploma in Fitness and Health Promotions, Kinesiology, Health Studies or related discipline is an asset
- Valid First Aid & CPR certification, to be maintained at the employee's expense
- Knowledge, familiarity and experience with fitness equipment use and group exercise programs
- Ability to deal courteously and effectively with staff, program participants and members of the general public
- Enthusiasm and self starter orientation while working independently
- Physically fit to meet the position's physical demands; able to set up, move and lift fitness class and personal training equipment
- Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings and holidays to accommodate the Fitness Centre schedule
- Basic computer knowledge (Microsoft Office) required; recreation registration software knowledge is an asset
- Must obtain and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check (CPIC), including Vulnerable Sector
