Finishing Operative

The Finishing Operative is responsible for the final stages of producing glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) or fiberglass products.

Key Responsibilities: Trimming & Cutting

• Using tools like saws, routers, or knives to cut fiberglass to the required shape and size.

Sanding & Polishing

• Smoothing out surfaces to remove imperfections, ensuring a high-quality finish.

Gel Coating & Painting

• Applying protective coatings, paints, or resins for durability and appearance.

Assembly & Repairs

• Fitting parts together, fixing defects, or reinforcing weak areas.

Quality Control

• Checking finished products for defects, ensuring they meet industry standards.

Health & Safety Compliance

• Working with protective gear and handling hazardous materials safely.

Skills & Requirements

• Good hand-eye coordination and attention to detail.
• Ability to work with power tools and sanding equipment.
• Understanding of health and safety regulations (e.g., wearing masks, ventilation).
• Experience with resin application and fiberglass lamination is a plus.
• Physical stamina for manual labour tasks.

This role is common in industries like automotive, marine, aerospace, and construction, where fiberglass components are widely used.

Work Environment & Conditions

Manufacturing plant environment with exposure to machinery and equipment.

• May require standing for extended periods and occasional lifting of materials.
• Compliance with safety protocols is mandatory.
